The new Uptown Cheapskate at the Shops at Tallgrass has opened, though for now it’s limited to customers who want to come in and sell their men’s and women’s clothing and accessories.
“We’re just trying to build up our customer database and make sure we have a beautiful store filled with amazing product,” said owner Mollie Schell.
Schell opened her first Uptown Cheapskate at 2243 N. Tyler, near 21st Street, in late 2010.
The new store in the center near 21st and Rock Road is in the former Nelson Designs space. Uptown Cheapskate is a franchise with more than 100 stores. Schell owns the franchise in Tulsa, too.
Schell buys clothing from people looking to sell from their own closets. She said she buys the items outright. They are not put on consignment.
Though the store has a spring and summer focus currently, Schell said she’ll buy other items as well.
The new store is similar to her existing one with a focus on teen and young adult apparel and accessories for men and women. Schell said she has older customers as well, but she targets trendy items for a younger market.
Schell said it generally takes four to six weeks to fill the store, so this Uptown Cheapskate should be open to shoppers by early or mid April.
For potential customers who have something to sell, Schell said, “Its time to clean out their closets and come see us.”
Landmark Commercial Real Estate’s Craig Simon, CCIM, who represents the center, handled the lease on the deal.
