The west side has been a bit left out of all the big retail news of the last week, but not entirely.
HomeGoods, one of six new retailers coming to Greenwich Place at K-96 and Greenwich, also is opening a store in Central Park Place, the center along North Maize Road whereLowe’s is. HomeGoods will open in 22,500 square feet north of Academy Sports & Outdoorsand behind LongHorn Steakhouse.
The company isn’t commenting yet, but permitting for the new store is underway.
HomeGoods is a sister store to T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, which is located across the street atNewMarket Square.
It’s not the same chain that opened in the former Target store at 301 S. Towne East Mall Drive last year. That’s At Home, the Home Decor Superstore.
Like its sister stores, HomeGoods sells discounted merchandise that often is designer or name brands. It focuses solely on items for the home – not apparel as T.J. Maxx and Marshalls sell in addition to other products.
HomeGoods has furniture, bedding, accessories, seasonal decor, lighting, rugs, gifts, outdoor items and kitchen supplies among other things.
Brad Saville of Landmark Commercial Real Estate and Andy Crimmins of RED Legacy in Kansas City did the west-side HomeGoods deal.
Wichita has been on something of a retail roll in the last week.
First came the news late last week that Pottery Barn will open at Bradley Fair at 21st and Rock Road this fall.
It’ll be in a new building where Eddie Bauer used to sit next to Gap.
Then this week, news broke of a slew of new stores for Greenwich Place, where Bed Bath & Beyond, World Market and BuyBuy Baby already are near the Wichita Sports Forum.
In addition to HomeGoods, the new Greenwich Place stores include Designer Shoe Warehouse, Ross Dress For Less, Ulta Beauty, Mardel, a Christian book and gift store, andCavender’s, a Western wear store.
What’s more, the shopping and dining news – along with some hotel news – looks like it’s going to keep coming for both the east and west sides. We’ll keep you posted.
