Fringe Salon is expanding into new space at the Waterfront at 13th and Webb Road, butGM Clothes Horse will still be its next-door neighbor.
That’s because the salon, a Redken Elite Salon, is moving to the other side of the retailer, where Fairchild Interiors and Design once was.
“I’m growing out of my small space,” Jesi Hartley says of the 1,400 square feet that she’s had since 2005.
She’ll be moving into 2,100 square feet, which includes a loft she’ll use as well.
With the expansion, Hartley says, she’ll be able to make upgrades in addition to having more room for stylists.
“I’m just overstaffed,” she says of her current space.
When Hartley opened at the Waterfront, there were nine employees. Today there are 18, including 14 stylists.
Hartley says since Redken purchased Pureology, she needs more room to showcase those products as well.
At the new salon, Hartley also is going to add express manicures and pedicures.
“So that while your color sets, you can get a nail service done.”
Lighting, though, will be the star of the new salon space, she says.
New York-based designer and lighting specialist Peter Millard is doing the lighting for the salon, Hartley says.
“He designed a light bulb specially made for hair color.”
Hartley says it’s like walking into a boutique with great lighting.
“You’re like, oh, my God, my skin and everything looks so much better.”
The move will happen in November.
“We’re just super-excited about our salon company’s growth and what we’ve done with Redken in the last 10 years,” Hartley says.
She says she can’t wait to see what the next decade – or longer – brings.
“We might need a bigger space in 10 years.”
